UNIQUE GROUP ACTIVITIES FOR EVERY SEASON

Take your wedding to the next level by planning exciting group activities for your guests! Every season offers a different form of fun that will make your wedding celebrations in the Keweenaw memorable for everyone.

Year Round Activities

Take your wedding party underground and experience the fascinating history of the copper mining industry that brought tens of thousands of immigrants to the region. The Quincy Mine offers year-round underground tours. During the winter, tours can be scheduled by appointment by calling 906-482-5569.

To accompany your underground mine tour, we recommend heading to the Keweenaw National Historical Park Headquarters and Visitor Center. Located in downtown Calumet, the KNHP Headquarters offers a free interactive museum that provides a glimpse into what life was really like for miners and their families from the start of the copper mining boom until the last mine closed. The Headquarters is open year-round but limits its hours to Thursdays-Saturdays in the winter months.

Summer

Summer is the time to explore and enjoy lush Keweenaw forests and miles-upon-miles of Lake Superior shoreline. This is why we love a good summertime wedding. With so many activities to choose from, your wedding party will have no shortage of adventure.

For your guests who love adventure, Keweenaw Adventure Company offers guided mountain bike tours. They provide all the gear necessary to hit the trails in Copper Harbor and are happy to show you the ropes if its your first time. If your group wants to slow things down, Keweenaw Adventure Co. also offers guided sea kayaking tours in Lake Superior. This is a great way to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Keweenaw on a warm sunny day.

If you're in the Houghton- Hancock area, consider a relaxing pontoon cruise with Keweenaw Boat Tours or take a historic tour of the Portage Canal with Copper Country Boat Tours. For a self-guided experience, Portage Paddle Sports offers kayaks, paddleboards, and bicycles for exploring the Portage Canal and the cities of Houghton and Hancock.

Of course, a Keweenaw summer wedding wouldn't be complete without a group hike. There are trails for all levels of hikers, from beginner to advanced, so everyone can find something that suits their skill level. The breathtaking views of the Keweenaw Peninsula make the trails perfect for a memorable wedding experience. Whether the group hikes to a peak to watch the sunset, to a waterfall, or just to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, it's sure to be an unforgettable experience!

Winter

Group activities for Keweenaw winter weddings can be as adventurous or laid-back as the happy couple desires. The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge offers snowshoe and ski rentals and has a nice variety of trails available on the lodge property. This is a great way to enjoy all of the fresh Keweenaw snow in a nice relaxing setting. Warm up by the fireplace or enjoy a private group dinner at the lodge afterwards.

For those who enjoy downhill adventures, Mount Bohemia Ski resort is a must! This epic ski hill boasts steep glades, long runs, and is entirely fueled by lake-effect snow. While this mountain is only recommended for experienced skiers, the resort does offer many experiences that all your guests can enjoy. Mount Bohemia has beautiful lantern-lit snowshoe trails, a rejuvenating Nordic Spa, wood-fired pizza, and bar areas.

For a fun and relaxed event, consider hosting a skating party for you and your guests! The MacInnes Student Ice Arena at Michigan Tech offers skate and ice rentals by the hour. Alternatively, take your guests downhill on a tubing adventure at Michigan Tech's ski hill, Mont Ripley.
