Getting around the Keweenaw is part of the fun. While most visitors arrive by personal vehicle, there are public transportation options, particularly around Houghton and Hancock. Of course, you can always rent a side-by-side (or a sled in the winter) and take advantage of 200+ miles of motorized trails to get to your favorite spots. Or if you’re heading to the Big Island (Isle Royale), you’ll be needing a seaplane or ferry.
Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Keweenaw as you pedal through rich forests, paddle along the rugged shores of Lake Superior, and explore on foot. Bicycles and manually propelled watercraft offer the most environmentally friendly form of transportation and allow visitors the opportunity to access even more remote destinations in the peninsula. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own equipment, as there are several businesses throughout the Keweenaw that offer professional equipment rentals suited for all types of adventure.
Sea kayaks give visitors the opportunity to explore the rugged shores of the Keweenaw up close. Sea Kayaks are available for rent at the Keweenaw Adventure Company in Copper Harbor.
Explore 160 miles of summer trails and 230 miles of winter trails by side-by-side and snowmobile! Picturesque trails wind through pine forests and along Lake Superior shoreline, offering scenic vistas and access to the Keweenaw’s hidden natural wonders. The Keweenaw Waterway and inland lakes also offer unique views and excellent fishing opportunities.
Hit the Keweenaw ATV Trails and explore the Keweenaw’s hidden gems. ATVs and side-by-sides are a great way to get around in the summer!
